Yes, this was discussed briefly in October of 2003. Rachel Myr made a
wonderful point and Jay Gordon also doubts the research.  The 4-6 month
time period is just too, too coincidental.  And as Rachel pointed out,
maybe there would be a window if the baby was formula fed having no
breastmilk in the diet, but surely the breastmilk would have benficial
effects. Search the archives for the posts.

I met a mother who was very pro-exclusive breastfeeding but just HAD to
add cereal at 6 months, exactly,  after she read the DHHS page with the
article per her doctors advice, because of her worry of the diabetes in
her family.

Funny how quickly many jumped on that little bit of research but the whole
issue of how not breastfeeding increases the risks of diabetes is being
scrutinized so thoroughly that it can't even be mentioned in the ad
campaign or during the prenatal checkups.
