I was recently reviewing the Milk Intake and Gut Capacity chart developed by Linda Smith. I began wondering if there are similar guidelines for premies? Do we expect to see the same weight gain in premies that we do in full termers? Does anyone have a reference for me -- OR a direction to send me in to find it? For some reason I'm seeing more and more "near term" babies (34-37 weeks) who do well enough to avoid the NICU and be D/C'ed home but doctors are reluctant to "allow" exclusive breastfeeding.

I've been searching the archives (and will continue), but seem to be hitting posts with the same question -- just not the answer!

Thanks!
