It's my unerstnding thast the sinuses were originally identified by examining cadavers.  They had injected from the nipple with a rubber like substance. (If you ever discected a pig or cat in anatomy classes, it's similar to what was injected into the blod vessels.)  Of course, this would stretch out the same areas that expand under untrasound studies today.  They would stay expanded with the stuff hardening in them and thus would look like defined sinuses.
Like others have mentioned, I do take with a grain of salt research sponsored by a company that stasnds to benefit from the results.  Has anyone without a commercial interest replicated the studies that show "no lactiferous sinuses"?
