Have worked with anumber of mothers in the AF over the years who worked
on the flight line and this was never considered a problem. My husband
worked in Environmental Health for a time and neither did he see this as
a problem.

The placenta is different from how the body makes breastmilk. I would
think you would be able to explain this to the Mom. My husband suggested
that if the mom had high enough levels to be measured in breastmilk that
she would have toxic levels in her blood as well.

To be honest having lived on a few air bases, esp when in German where
the USAF shared the runways with the Frankfurt Intn'l. Airport jet fuel
was considered a hazard by all of us who lived there, we saw it color our
white lace curtains, walls, etc and some claimed it pitted their dishes.
Those who delivered babies said they thought it affected placenta health
in general.

But moving from German back to southern California I realized that jet
fuel was just one kind of environmental pollution. And we are all
exposed to one kind or another no matter where we live or work. So are
cows and soy that TOS (that other stuff) is made from - anyone care to
claim it's any healthier? Don't think so. Kind of like medication in
breastmilk - your dealing with the possibility of a problem vs the known
problems we know of with the TOS.

I know there were at least 2 other folks on Lactnet who worked with pg
and bf mothers at the same time I was in Germany and who have worked with
BF mothers at other military bases. Care to comment, Cathy or Mary?
