I applaud and second -even if not always expressed as so on LN- most of your
sayings and thoughts, as they display clear, logical thinking, but this time I
do have a little comment to make.
When my first was born 19 years ago tomorrow, feeding schedules were strict,
both in timing per feed as for # feeds. ''Ofcourse'' my baby acted as she was
supposed to by nature, so she did not fit into the hospital and baby-care
systems. Then I started to record for myself (I've always loved graphs and
diagrams) the exact times she breastfed and the time it took each time, along
with her sleeping/ awake and crying times. I breastfed her if en when and for as
long as she wanted -because I was much to 'lazy' to try other solutions when
''it was not her time yet''- but it did reassure me to see after some weeks,
that she indeed did have a rithmical kind of cycle of her own, but that it was
not a 24 but rather a 26 hour cycle. Once I noticed that I stopped recording and
never looked at any clock nor calender again for as far as breastfeeding (nor
any other childraising issues) were concerned.
So recording the timing of feeds in my personal case led to happyly
breastfeeding ever after. And I do recommend it occasionally if appropriate to
moms who are anxious about the ''lack of ritme'' in their children.
