Long story - but yesterday I sat through a formula salesperson's
presentation on complementary feeds. Oops- apparently she is a " infant
nutrition expert". All very correct information re starting complementary
foods at around 6 months and breastmilk being the food of choice etc. But
all the usual subtleties were there. The audience - mainly midwives - were
enthralled! The next "scientific" presentation highlighted the benefits of
a particular bum cream. And I gave up my Saturday for this???? And I was
offered educational credits????

A while ago I found a formula salesperson inside our nursery - removing our
displayed handouts and replacing them with her own! When I told her that no
brochures were given to our mothers without being read and approved first,
she was amazed and listed all the other hospitals that were only too happy
to have them. We are not Baby-friendly and I am not in a position (yet!) to
refuse contact with these salespersons, but fortunately they are sent to me
and have no contact with the other staff and their material doesn't see the
light of day in our unit.
