I am appalled that what was reported may have occurred. However, I
wonder if we are jumping the gun to call the nurses involved Lactation
Consultants. Had they already received training beyond what they received
in nursing school? Had they been certified by IBLCE? Were any of them
members of ILCA (although this does not guarantee they are LCs, of course)?

If the above questions are answered in the negative, then I would not
necessarily assume they are lactation consultants. However, even if not in
the official sense, if they were acting in that capacity, should they not
be held to the same ETHICAL STANDARD as the rest of us who adhere to those
ethics statements as publicized by IBLCE and ILCA?

Or am I missing something here?
