breastfeeding seem that much more difficult for an average woman who
enjoys wearing perfume and using other scented products. That is the
objectionable thing about the woman on Oprah, IMO. ....Furthermore, if
perfume
exposure is a great concern, anyone with a baby, especially a formula
fed baby with more unknowns going into her body, should forgo wearing
perfume. Unless the baby is never held. :-(( After all, contact
with my perfume may rub off on my babies- in fact, I know it does
since I've smelled it on them, just as I smell my husband on them in
the morning when they've been snuggling in bed together."

Hi Kate
I agree with your concerns.
Years ago (probably late-1960s) La Leche League News carried a letter form a
mother about her experiences wiht a baby who kept getting a rash on her
face. As breastfeeding was unfashionable, guess what was blamed! However,
the mother managed to identify the cause - which had nothing at all to do
with breastfeeding. She was using hairspray for one of the hairstyles them
popular, and some of the spray mist was all over her shoulders. So when she
put her baby on hr shoulders to bring up wind, her baby's face came in
contact with hairspray. This would have happened if she had bottle-fed from
birth. As soon as she began using a cape to cover her neck and shoulders
when spraying her hair, the rash disappeared.
As you said, perfume contact can come from other sources, other than the
Mum.
