Hi all,
A mom called me today (permission to post) with a 4 month old baby on an
apnea monitor for previous apnea who is breastfeeding. Mom gets her menses
early with each baby although she is exclusively breastfeeding. She has
noticed that the baby has had several episodes the first 1-2 days of each
menses where the baby's heart rate dips to the 30s and the O2 sat dips to the
60s 1-1 1/2 hours after nursing when he's lying in the cradle. She picks him
up and his heart rate and O2 sat recover quickly. She has had to call 911 in
the past for these episodes. Could there be any correlation with her menses
or is this just a coincidence? Any ideas? Her last baby had transposition of
the great vessels as well as many other anomalies diagnosed later including a
brain malformation--can't remember exactly what type. First child is healthy.
