I have a baby whose mom has given me permission to post. Mom has plenty of
milk, baby is growing very well. However, since early on, DOB 3-20-12,
6#12oz, now ~11#, he has acted 'congested' after feeds, and fussy during
feeds. The 'congestion' is not consistent with feeds, or time of day. And
at 2 months, there does not seem to be congestion, just the very fussy
baby--who is fussy while eating, arching, and gradually settles when he is
full.
Mom stopped dairy for 2 weeks (She's Indian/Asian, and did little dairy
anyway). No soy use.
He feeds well only when very sleepy, and most night feeds go ok.
Doctor has tried maalox, and now omeprazole to no benefit. She also had
mom pump for 3 days for trial of Neutramigen, also no benefit. Still very
fussy and arching during feeding. At breast he goes on and off, crying
between. Refuses pacifier.
Stools normal for age.
Mom sometimes gets sore from his on/off style, but usually he latches with
skill.
Mom is due to go back to work, and even her mother who lives with them is
worried about how fussy he is, especially with a bottle, and how she will
manage this.
He seems to be in some discomfort, yet the GI drugs, did nothing to
alleviate the problem. And of course, I don't really think that brmilk is
the source of pain.
Any ideas???
