I have a letter from Kendall Healthcare products company in the U.S
that is specific for it's use with lactating mothers with nipple damage.
Here is part of it of most relevance
Aquaflo Hydrogel Dressing is formed as a fully integrated polymer
network. This means that the polymer is one continuous structure that does
not dissolve or seperate even in highly aggresive solvents. As a result
there is essentially no prospect that the polymer can be left as a residual
on the skin and consumed by the infant.
The moisturizing action is accomplished by three components :water,
propylene glycol, and polyethylene glycol which are trapped in the polymer
network. With surface contact these ingrediants WILL leave a residual
presence on the skin.Propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol are commonly
used in skin moisturisers. They are of low toxicity. Both are components of
the vehicles for orally administered infant medications.
In our breastfeeding clinic we have found these dressings to be very
effective in women with extensive nipple damage/fissures and despite the
cost would recommend them.
