Jeannette asks about how promote skin-to-skin when the AAP Red Book states:
"Delaying prophylaxis for as long as 1 hour after birth to facilitate
parent-infant bonding is unlikely to influence efficacy. Longer delays have
not been studied." She also sums up the environment here in the USA when
she states: "For obvious medico-legal reasons, we cannot delay the eye
ointment prophylaxis beyond 1-hour."

I, however, read the AAP blurb just the opposite way: That delaying the eye
goop probably doesn't make a darn bit of difference, though we don't have
studies to show it.

Think an interpretation that simple will fly? Especially since we do have
buckets of studies talking about the undeniable "efficacy" of skin-to-skin
contact between ALL mothers and babies in the mimmeidate post partum hours?
