Hello lactnetters -
I am posting for a friend of mine, Ann Cagigas, RN, MA (in lactation),
IBCLC,LLLL whose modem is on the fritz.

I am seeing a mother with hyper-innervation (too many nerve endings).
Forceful MER (3 feet across the room with GENTLE touch). History of
progressive fibrocystic breast disease. Long standing history of breast
sensitivity since menstruation. She has nipple blanching, which I'm sure is
due to hypertonic bite on baby's part. Baby does have some unusual mouth
anatomy, but nothing to cause such severe pain. Mom has intermittent cycles
of pain in the breast - which seems to occur as the ducts are filling up.
Elevation of the breast seems to help the pain. When mom puts the breast
down, pain returns in three minutes. On a pain scale of 1-10, hand
expression and pumping has mom at a pain level of three. Bfdg has a pain
level of 10, which drops to about a six during the feed. There is no
evidence of candida but has a 20 year history of yeast problems. Mom is
taking acidophyllis, while on antibiotics for mastitis. Baby is 6 weeks old.

I would like some sugestions for this committed mother with severe breast
pain, who is about to give up the breastfeeding.

Please post privately and I will pass on to Ann.

Thank you!
