Sorry to harp on about breast storage capacity but there was one clinical
application I wanted to mention last post and forgot to. Sleep programs are
very popular here (so many mums have high expectations with regard to their
baby's sleep). However there are real problems associated with sleep
programs that are instigated when a baby is still fully breastfed. I often
hear mother's repeat to me that they have been told that their baby is now
old enough to go X amount of hours without feeding and that its not feeding
they're really demanding, just attention. So controlled crying is instigated
(or, as I think it was Sue Cox who turned the phrase to, controlled
comforting). This has real dangers for Mums whose storage capacities are low
and need to feed frequently to get the required volume into their baby over
a 24 hour period.
