Dear Rita:

Yes, work situations can require some ingenuity. And you're also right
that the mother needs to feel comfortable and private (because to speak
to another current thread, how much a mother can pump and how much the
baby can remove are not necessarily the same thing. Some people are
natural-born pumpers, while others really have to find their tricks to
make the pump productive.)

Just a cover-up might not be enough. What about a curtain, or even a
folding screen, that she can prop against the wall most of the day, and
just partition off a corner where the camera isn't for the pumping
session. If the overhead angle is the problem, there are lots of easy
pop-up tents that just snap open, and that some mothers have used for
pumping in outdoor settings. I used to have one that was tall and
narrow -- can't see anything like that on a quick look on the Internet,
but there's probably one that would fit the space -- here's a quick example:
http://www.beachmall.com/c=L7i5Bz9bX93Wk8HLFOp0V52uU/product/ABO155/Beach-Shelters-Quick-Pop-UP-Beach-Shelter-Shade-Canopy.html.

And her toddler will someday have fun playing with it.

If she's self-conscious about the pump sound, she can play relaxing
music, which might help her anyway.

<[log in to unmask]> Subject: pumping at work in a room with video
cameras Hi all, What options does an employee have when she desires to
express her milk at work and the only room available is heavily secured
with many video cameras? She says they are in the ceiling and cannot be
easily covered. She is a manager in a gaming store. I don't think it is
a question of her being allowed to pump at work, it is a question of
logistics. Has anyone come across this situation before? Suggestions?
How can she get some privacy without going to her car? (Her pump doesn't
offer a car adapter and it is too hot outside anyway.) Thanks so much
for any help. Rita Madden RN BSN, IBCLC Iowa, USA This message and any
