I'll respond to Jacqui's email because she added
another fun bit at the end. :-)

First of all, let me say I feel completely unworthy
after reading Jacqui's story and was especially
impressed with her humorous writing style.

First baby (1978) - breastfed until 18 months when she
got up and rolled off the bed to tag behind her daddy
while he got ready for work. She never wanted to
latch on again, even when I offered, but I know in
retrospect that I could have managed breastfeeding
better. She had a pacifier she only gave up under
duress at age 4, and I had a terrible diet and dragged
her around with me in my Busy Mommy social life that
probably interfered with my supply (putting off
feedings, distracting her with other fun things to do,
tiring myself out). She started eating solids at 6
months, and my periods came back at 7 months. She was
also actively encouraged to sleep through the night in
her own crib. :-( A hard lesson learned.

Second baby (1992) - breastfed until he was nearly 4.
Not sure exactly when he stopped since it tapered off
so gradually. I know it was definitely within 2-3
months of his 4th birthday because I have a photo of
him nursing at 45 months. :-) A mama learns a lot
when there is 14 years between babies. I went back to
work full-time when this baby was ten weeks old, but
he still had nothing but Mommy Milk until he was eight
months old and started solids. Never any formula. My
story of combining working and breastfeeding is at
http://www.kjsl.com/~cee/working.htm . It's one of my
proudest life accomplishments so I love sharing about
it. :-) This little guy slept with me until he was
almost 6 and didn't sleep through the night until he
was at least 2.5 - which I was fine with since we were
apart so much during the day. Lovely lactation
amenorrhea lasted until he was 20 months old - when I
changed jobs and had to get up earlier so we didn't
get our usual long, leisurely morning nursing in ...
and this new job was further from his daycare so I
couldn't go over and nurse him at lunchtime. ::sigh::
I might be still grieving over that a little bit,
even as he approaches his 16th birthday. ;-)

As to Jacqui's bumper sticker query, I have:

"Breastmilk = bestmilk"
"Women, Take Back Birth!"
"Midwives Help People Out"
"Birth Is NOT an Illness"

I want a "Save the Ta-tas" stickers! My husband will
surely stop wanting to drive my minivan if I put that
one on it. As it is, he will only drive it at night.
LOL.

Cee
