After finally getting through the last several days of posts I have several
thoughts running through my mind and would like to share. Will try to stay
brief, not an easy task for me.
On jury duty: I must agree with those defending our legal system. It isn't
perfect, but it's the best we've got. Jury selection is probably the
fairest part of the process, with both sides given equal opportunities to
accept or refuse a juror. In the last year 3 of our OB nurses (out of a
total of 7-very small unit) were called to jury duty, 2 were selected.
On nursing cats: Now I understand what's going on with my 14 yr old
"kitten" who has always been very "oral". Had always suspected he was
weaned too early, but now I understand why he eats all my blankets and
chews holes in the furniture. He starts out licking and sucking at the
material and if not stopped will eventually start eating it. Has been very
frustrating but is his only flaw. Replacement furniture will be leather.
On hospital practices: regarding the legal issues in giving bottles to
breastfed babies; I finally got through to one of my co-workers that she
could have legal action taken against her if she did not stop giving
bottles of abm to breastfed babies during the night, WITHOUT THE MOTHER'S
PERMISSION! yes, I yelled at her. Pointed out that her actions were equal
to giving a medication without an order, according to the policies on
breastfeeding that we have in our department.
