I had a pediatrician call with this question. An toddler sibling of a breastfed infant has hand foot mouth disease. This breastfeeding infant also is starting to have mouth sores. Could mom possibly get lesions on her breasts that would make it too painful to continue breastfeeding. Should she pump instead until infant is symptom free? Has anyone ever seen this? I realize that it is not contraindicated to breastfeed with this disease, but could mom potentially get lesions on the breast?

Thank you!
