Thank you, Jan, for the calm voice of reason regarding listeriosis.  I
have been judiciously suggesting cabbage compresses with good
result and would hate to lose that avenue.  It seems to me that
when I was growing up in Hong Kong (parents were missionaries)
my mother soaked all vegetables in a 10% bleach solution, then
rinsed.  Would this kill the contamination?  Would this suggestion
be acceptable in places where contamination is likely?  Personally, I
hesitate to pile any more instructions than necessary on a mom who
is already stressed with engorgement, so I doubt I will use my own
suggestion, but I did want to throw the solution "out there."
