Dear Friends:
This new regulation has had an impact on me, in a small and ridiculous
fashion.
My daughter is doing some wonderful allergy elimination treatment (NAET
if you are interested) at a chiropractor's office. Today I had to sign
consents to permit the office to call my home and leave a message about my
daughter, or to talk about my daughter's care on the phone with me or her
father. I also had to sign a consent to recognize that other people might see
my daughter in the chiropractor's office and know that she was receiving
treatment.
The receptionist told me that she can no longer ask a patient in the
office anything about their condition. All she can ask is "How are you?" in
case some other person hears a discussion.
This is nuts! On one hand, privacy is being destroyed in the USA with
computers and security; yet on the other hand, we have to be careful about
privacy when one is a patient in a practitioner's office.
I guess it has to do with people receiving care for HIV?
     Warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CIMI, CCE, craniosacral therapy
