HAH! I see what you mean. Well, it isn't written very clearly then,
because I read it to mean that pregnancy, breastfeeding and birth control
WERE the causes of prolonged exposure to estrogen.

Either I am getting paranoid, or it is written poorly.

Wordsmiths, what say you???

Janice

(Why didn't they then come right out and say that breastfeeding and taking
birth control could decrease exposure to estrogen).
(I stand behind my understanding. I think lots of lay people would be like
me, and not really understand whether preg, bf, and BC would increase or
decrease exposure to estrogen, and could read it the wrong way).

"Go easy on the estrogen. Prolonged exposure to estrogen without a break
(due to pregnancy, breast-feeding or birth control, for example) makes your
more susceptible to breast cancer. You can lower your lifetime estrogen
exposure by shedding extra pounds (extra fat cells make extra estrogen),
avoiding menopausal hormone replacement therapy and consuming less red meat
and dairy (they may contain hormones, and their high cholesterol levels up
your breast cancer odds)."

I don't think they are saying anything wrong here. I read it to say:
those who are never pregnant or who never breastfeed are more prone to
breast cancer because they never get a break from estrogen. And that is
correct.

What am I missing?
