As a fellow Canadian, I support Karyn-Grace's submission to the British
Columbia "Conversations on Health" discussions.

Frankly, I am not really concerned about the specifics of her proposal.
Would that we should be so lucky, that they would just jump at her proposal
and implement it!!! The fact of the matter is, it won't be. (Soory
Karyn-Grace !!! :-) If we thought it were, (going to be immediately put
into action) then it would be sensible to give clear and careful thought to
*exactly* the best support that could be offered.

I 100% support Karyn-Grace in taking the effort to put forward a submission.
Every time that breastfeeding is put forward to health professionals,
politicians, bureaucrats and the general public, is a *good thing*. It may
get breastfeeding support THOUGHT OF, and considered, and discussed.

Of course more peer support would be great, and is the best long-term
support to having breastfeeding become the cultural norm. But if her
presentation could lead to some more funding for IBCLC's for the duration of
the normal breastfeeding period, who could then organize support groups, or
continue to care for breastfeeding dyads through challenges they face beyond
the infant period, then great, I'll take it. I've heard of too many moms of
older babies, who are facing unusual challenges (severe allergy, etc) who
cannot access the skilled care that an IBCLC could provide. I've also seen
too many IBCLC's who receive no funding to keep up their certification, or
are assigned to positions that don't allow them to use their IBCLC skills.

You have to consider the audience she is presenting to. I assume that
health care bureaucrats will better understand the funding of specialists,
rather then the development of peep support networks. I say, try for the
support you think you might be able to get.
