[I'm intrigued by this "spin" on breastfeeding promotion - the organization
is called "Children for Breastfeeding", the slogan is "Let's all breastfeed
with mother. It's the in thing to breastfeed" and the tactic is
breastfeeding in front of day care students to expose them to breastfeeding
as the norm.

What a contrast to the many cases in North America, where mothers are
chastised for breastfeeding in public, in front of children. I often hear
of this happening, specifically at day cares or other places where children
spend time, like schools, parks or zoos.

Negros joins breastfeeding promotion

By Julmunir I Jannaral

THE Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office is joining a nationwide
campaign on May 2 to establish the first Guinness World Record on
simultaneous breastfeeding in multiple sites, according to a health official
yesterday.

Negros Occidental provincial health officer Dr Luisa Efren said Children for
Breastfeeding Incorporated is organising the May 2 activity, dubbed
"Sabay-sabay, Sumuso sa Nanay! Uso ang Magpasuso" (Let's all breastfeed with
mother. It's the in thing to breastfeed).

The simultaneous breastfeeding in Negros Occidental will be held in
Department of Social Welfare and Development day care centres and hospitals,
which serve as official sites for the activity, Efren said.

She said that the act of breastfeeding in front of the day care students
will inculcate in their young minds that breastfeeding is the norm in
nourishing babies, she added.

The provincial health officer also said that Berkeley, California held the
previous record with 1,130 mothers in 2002.
