Dr. Nils Bergman speaks in his research to the rising levels of cortisol in
infants separated from their mother, these stress hormones are associated
with increased illness. I am just in the middle of a pop science book called
Genome that speaks to this. Bergman's research also speaks to changed
patterns of breathing in infants separated from their mother. This stress
patterned breathing is something I have always assumed is normal since I
hear so much of it. So infants in cribs would have much higher levels of
cortisol and therefore higher levels of illness.
