                        A. New mothers who don't plan on breast-feeding

                        begin having injections right after childbirth,
even before
                        they go home from the hospital. Mothers who are
                        breast-feeding can safely begin having shots six
weeks
                        after childbirth. The injections do not harm the
baby or
                        reduce the flow of breast milk. " located at

"8. Lactation :Detectable amounts of drug have been identified in the
milk of mothers receiving
    DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection. In nursing mothers treated
with DEPO-PROVERA

not adversely affected. Infants
    exposed to medroxyprogesterone from breast milk have been studied
for developmental and
    behavioral effects through puberty. No adverse effects have been
noted.

So the important thing seems to be not to give it until baby is 6 weeks
old. Thats what we do in my area and I havent seen a problem.
