Dear Lactnetters,
I am forwarding this request on to you. Would someone please post the details of BFHI in the USA for Shari.

Subject: getting "baby friendly"

Dear Joy,
I have heard and read bits and pieces about the Baby Friendly Initiative. Could you send me an outline of exactly what is entailed, what criteria do we need to work toward meeting and how can we then call ourselves as such. I work at a county hospital and we need a lift.
thank you,
Shari Collom Wilson, RN>
The Global Criteria are "global" based on the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. I understand that each country sets up a management structure and administers the process of providing education, giving accreditation to educators and assessors, arranging external assessment of maternity care facilities, and making the Baby Friendly award.
