Dear Lisa-
    I would tend to think more about lack of receptors rather than lack of
oxytocin because when given synthetic oxytocin, there was no response.
HOwever, I have not read of any documented cases of lack of receptors and
wonder if I'm just making it up....
     The mom I was working with (who just decided to stop all her efforts to
breastfeed), worked with a midwife who gave her herbs to tone the uterus,
raspberry bark and what not, but she still did not contract with two trials
of pitocin induction.
    I didn't suggest galactagogues because it seemed more a matter of getting
the milk ejection going, nor did I suggest oxytocin nasal spray because she
didn't respond to IV oxytocin in labor.  She needed methergine to cause her
uterus to contract after the Cesarean, because, again, the pitocin didn't do
the job.  Methergine can suppress lactation, but she just had one dose during
her cesarean.
    I'm stymied.  One other fellow lactnetter told me she had a similar
experience with one of her clients---So now we have three case studies here!
