Is there anyone here that is in Private Practice in the Jacksonville, FL
area? Or works at a breastfeeding specific clinic?

An experienced breastfeeding mother (of 7!) who I am working with by email
has a compression wound at the base of the nipple. Appeared in 4th or 5th
week post partum, breastfeeding was 'fine' on that side until then Was
causing excruciating pain and mother was desperate enough to consider
weaning. She's now unilaterally nursing and hand-expressing on the
affected side (the pump re-opens the wound). She suspects a high palate.
Baby noticeably 'gums' the nipple on that side only. Nurses fine on the
other. Varying positions haven't prevented re-injury. Wound heals quickly
when she avoids that side and hand expresses.

We've been through the ringer and have tried everything - next stop is a
nipple shield which she will try later today. I think she and her babe would
benefit from thorough oral/anatomical exam as well as a breastfeeding
observation. She has contacted someone already (from the ILCA directory)
who told her that she didn't think meeting in person would do any good.
Yeah.

Would love a recommendation for someone in her area, as well as any further
wisdom!

Blessings!
