I had been consulted by a mother about her baby's tongue tie and she went to
an ENT who clipped it.  He used an anesthetic gel and after the procedure the
baby drooled and was unable to nurse for a while waiting for the anesthetic
to wear off.

I have been to a couple conferences who had clinicians that clip frenulums
and none of them use or recommend anesthetics.  Dr Jayne was one of these
speakers and if one obtains her video you will see how it done.

Maybe some of the misconceptions about clipping frenulums (blood lose, and
pain) came from the lack of information out there for clinicians.  Over 20
years ago, clipping was done almost routinely if a tongue tie was noted.
Then it fell out of vogue and clinicians were told they were unnecessary.  I
believe that most clinicians need to be reeducated about why and how clipping
is done.  This is a long processes but not impossible especially if the
public is educated at the same time and apply the pressure for the medical
model to catch up.
