Lorij asks, "what prevents a mother from saying "No!"?

Simple. Fear plus minimal knowledge plus inaccurate information. If
someone tells you there is something "worng" with your baby and it
needs to get some formula RIGHT NOW to prevent brain damage, what
would you do? If you were a new mom without much medical knowledge,
you'd go along with it no matter how much you don't want your baby
to get the formula. Anyone would rather have a baby without brain
damage even if it means baby must have some formula!

Before someone takes this wrong, I am being sarcastic. I know that
in most cases the formula is probably not going to be necessary, but
this is how is too often presented to the vulnerable new mom.

Winnie
