Hi Everyone,

I came across some fascinating references to dysbiosis of intestinal flora in autistic children, especially late-onset/regressive autism --defined in the article as 18-24 months. This just begs the question of whether appropriate breastfeeding duration demonstrates lower levels of autism or if breastmilk could be curative. That would be a lovely splash in the media.

The gist of the articles is that the finding of abnormal amounts and species of Clostridium (possibly in combination with some predisposition) contributes to the symptoms of Autism and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Clostridium is a toxin-producing bacteria. They found improvement in both GI symptoms and behavior after treatement with an antibiotic.
