Instead of trying to figure out how to minimize the pain of circs, why don't
we do more education about this being a barbaric, unnecessary procedure. The
peds I work for tell parents at new parents night, that it's an unnecessary
cultural procedure, not a health issue. Most still have their sons circs so
they will look like dad. Saw a baby boy a week ago who was not circed and
commented to the parents, it was nice to see he wasn't circed and they said
they wanted him to be like his dad. In light of the AAPs policy on circs
being medically unnecessary, maybe pressure needs to be put on insurance
companies to stop paying for them. Then, I bet more parents might opt not to
circ or at least to think it out more.
