Think of the "e" in Leche as the "e" in Merry
The ch is like Choose
L is like all other words in English...

Spanish is very phonetic -
a is like AAAAHHHH or alarm, far, father, farm
e as in merry, met,
i as in the doble e of Meek, or machine
o as in note
u is like the oo of food or moon
(it is silent after a g)

For this reason, children can read almost to their comprehension levels in
Spanish, whereas in English they start reading three-letter words (Ex: Cat
in the Hat) even though they can speak in multisyllable words...

And to make this breastfeeding related - the organization La Leche League
is named after Dr. Greg White (OB and husband of one of the founders, who
helped some of them deliver at home) suggested it - he used to give medals
of the Spanish Madonna from the shrine in St. Augustine, Florida of Our
lady of the milk and healthy delivery (Nuestra senora de la leche y el buen
parto). Remember that in the 1050's Breast was NEVER in the newspapers and
so "breastfeeding support group" would have had difficulty getting notices
printed.
