Just putting my two cents in...

I have had the best luck with pediatric ENTs. However, I have run
into some who will not work on an infant under 6 months--despite
breastfeeding woes! I have two pediatric ENTs that I regularly refer tight
frenulum cases to, and they have been most helpful.

Prior to meeting these two fabulous doctors--I had dealt with serious
resistance. One pediatrician in town actually told a mom that one of his
infant's bled to death after a frenotomy (of course he didn't do the
surgery). Can you believe that garbage? Unfortunately, mom bought the
story, I looked like the unprofessional LC for recommending it, and nothing
that I would ever say or do after that made any difference to her. Luckily,
it didn't stop me--and I finally found the right referral. Particularly in
"unelightened areas", it is very important to have doctors that you can refer
these moms to. I also keep phone numbers of moms with specific
circumstances, and I will give moms the opportunity to talk with moms who
have experienced similar circumstances. Most women who have babies with
ankloglossial issues are THRILLED once the frenotomy has done it's magic. Of
course I didn't invent anything new--LLLI figured out that mother-to-mother
communication was a great thing a long time ago...
