I agree that flu season is NOT the time to wean!  Look into that lip tie idea.   Makes more sense than weaning.   Isn't it sad that every solution to every problem is wean.  
Personal experience - 1 formula fed child - cavities in front teeth, 1 Bf child - cavities in front teeth :-(  
There are many factors going on, brushing, night nursing (I would try to cut that down), bacteria spread in a family,  - fix what you can and keep nursing for the other health reasons.  Be vigilant so 2nd teeth are healthier.  Pat in SNJ
