Hello Fellow Crusaders!

By BOTTLE do you mean formula or the use of the artificial nipple? Of Course both are a problem! We have this battle where I work. And they’re both a problem.

The Joint Commission Perinatal Core Measure Set will help curtail the needless use of formula. The Joint Commission doesn’t care how the breastmilk is given.

The use of bottles is another issue. Where I work we have policy that supports following THE TEN STEPS. We’ve been trying to use this as a means of getting staff to not give formula or bottles.

Actually steps 6 and 9 give you ammunition to correct both these problem. They bring their personal beliefs to work but they need to leave them at the door! A growing sector of the medical community is pushing for infants to be breastfed or at least fed expressed breastmilk.

Medical professionals who sabotage breastfeeding mothers are like having a Doctor who smokes tell you it is okay to smoke because that’s their personal belief!

By the way, the theme for World Breastfeeding Week is “It’s just Ten Steps”.

Hope this helps!
