At this early stage of the profession, the "I" in IBCLC gives the credential
more credibility. Certainly in Israel, where there is only beginning to be
some awareness that this profession exists, the "international
certification" brings a certain element of respect. Perhaps, eventually,
each country will develop it's own program, it's own credential, based on
the model set by IBLCE. This would solve the problem of testing in
different languages (currently a barrier to many non English speaking
Israeli's). Of course then there would be the issue of one place
recognizing the credential of another, having a standard of education and
training, and standards of practice being uniform, or at least having a
basic common ground.
