I think I recall Jack Newman saying that when he worked in Africa, he saw
women with tongue-tied babies. They had very sore nipples and had to nurse
the babies very frequently to get enough milk into them, but not having much
in the way of alternative ways to feed the baby, they just kept nursing. So
perhaps under those circumstances, the tongue tie would not be as great a
risk to survival as we might think.
