Hi Everybody:
The latest cute "breastfeeding education and support "package from a
formula company, with materials written by people who are IBCLC, with all the
little bears all over them is in violation of the WHO code in more than one
way: the logo is all over it, there is no mention of the hazards of formula,
and companies may not give "gifts" to healthcare workers That's for
starters.
As for dealing with people above you in the workplace, they can be
reminded of the ethics of marketing in the healthcare system. Why should a
company give away so much, except for ultimate gain? Human milk is not their
product. We know that breastfeeding women use more formula than mothers who
start out bottle feeding, because they are more concerned about their infants
nutrition. Whereas the bottle feeding mother will switch to cow's milk because
she is trying to save money. Warmly, Nikki
