Babies with Pierre-Robin sequence were once thought to be unable to
breastfeed. Some tips from my experience (of n=1): try extending the
baby's head to bring the tiny jaw in toward the breast and reduce airway
resistence, use an asymmetrical latch, try prone positioning of the baby
to allow the tongue to fall forward and improve respiration. If upright
works better for this baby, perhaps mom can recline a little to let
gravity help bring baby's tongue forward more.
Keep an eye on intake, especially with the cleft. If the breast can
seal the cleft well, the baby might be able to create some negative
pressure in the mouth. If the baby can hang on to the breast and not
fall off constantly, that's a good sign there is some negative pressure
going on.
The one baby with this condition that I have seen did successfully
breastfeed.
