I forwarded all the responses I received to the sister of the premie mum and she
writes that the mother is not able to give her baby her own breastmilk because
of the medications she is on, these being pain killers because of the c-section
(percocet) and an antibiotic for a UTI. Would that mean that her milk would not
be suitable for the baby? Are there some safe alternatives she could take?

I think the reason that they have not started on the breast milk is due to
the medications that she is taking.

Let me explain this point a little bit more. Not just to get her ready for
breast milk, but any type of feeding orally. They just want to be sure he
body can handle the intake through the mouth, and not just the tube feedings.
The formula was what they could use right now, due to mommy having been on
the prescribed medications.
