Peg,

I'm sorry I have no references to refer you to, only personal experience. My experience with a galactocele with chronic mastitis was that pumping exacerbated the problem - the mastitis stopped flaring up when I stopped working full-time. My guess is that when my baby nursed, a small amount of milk was able to move through the galactocele but with the pump it likely did not move at all. It was better when I could use a Symphony vs my Ameda Purely Yours. But, I could not get my insurance to cover the Symphony even under the ACA, because of the lack of evidence for this being a necessary tx. I don't know what to tell you as far as not stepping on the doc's toes, but that mom needs to get baby back to breast for the problem to improve, IMHO.
