Oh wise ones,
I have a question regarding the number of "weeks" betweem bowel movements.
A mom has an almost 4 mo old baby boy who has changed bowel habits since
month 2, but the time between is getting longer. He has now gone as long as
3 weeks and at that point only had bowel movement with help of glycerin
suppository. Baby is gaining extremely well--three pounds in one month.
(Wonder how much is that bowel movement he did not have??) Has plenty of wet
diapers--mom says more than 6 very wet. At last doctor visit, ped
recommended 2 oz of apple juice daily and if that does not work will
prescribe laxative and after that look into further testing. Mom has two
concerns, one being introducing juice or medication if not necessry and two,
what is considered a "safe" amount of time between bowel movements.
According to her ped, "toxicity can result from lack of bowel movements" and
of course, mom does not want her baby to be in danger.

I have searched the archives, but find only days between and older baby time
frames. Thank you for any information you can offer.
