Wise ones,

I hope you can again offer help: remember a few weeks back when I had a
client with "severe" nipple pain. She described it as being soooo painful
that she had decreased nursing to one time/day. When I saw her the baby went
to breast right away and without complaint; mom sat there and visited with
me throughout 20-30 min of nursing and NEVER complained about pain and never
had any outward signs of pain or discomfort. Once she finished nursing she
began to c/o about "horribly severe" pain, again. Baby nursed eagerly and
without problems and transferred a good amount of milk; particularly after
being given formula every time he ate with the exception of one feed/day.
No TT, absolutely NOTHING I could put my finger on.

When I called mom to f/u she said "Oh, I'm so glad you called, you inspire
me." I tried to f/u later and she did NOT return my calls. I posted to LN
and the consensus was that she wanted ME to give her permission to quit. I
called one final time and left the message that I assumed that she had met
her goals and was happy with or without the BRF relationship. I still did
not hear from her.

She has NOW called me twice today; she apologized for not returning my calls
but said that baby had been nursing without difficulty and everything was
fine except now (today) she was having breast (not nipple) pain. The second
time she called she said the pain was getting worse and now baby acts hungry
but once on the breast he sucks a couple of times and then pulls off. She
denies antibiotics, denies bright pink nipples, red dots on baby's bottom or
white patches in his mouth. This is the same mom that would NOT use APNO
b/c she was afraid of the steroids...I had finally convinced her that it was
OK and NOT to wipe off nipples before nursing (assuming that it was a thin
layer of ointment,) she was also NOT using "Soothies" b/c she thought they
were one time only use b/c it said disposable!

I was unable to see them today but have an appt for tomorrow afternoon; help
me please.

Thanks,

Royce
