Miriam - The suggestions you've made would be very effective in maximizing
breast drainage, and making the most of a small breastmilk supply. I have
worked with several moms whose breastmilk supply just didn't seem to come in
in the way I expected after postpartum haemorrhage. There was an excellent
article in the June 1995 issue of the JHL (p 123) about this. Has this mom
had her haemoglobin levels tested? I have found lowered breastmilk
production with a haemoglobin of 7 or lower. It is definitely worth
continuing breast drainage - as the haemoglobin level rises so does milk
production, but it may take several weeks. At least the mom is doing the
best she can and *any* breastmilk is beneficial to the baby. Best wishes.
