Re the article in Daily News 2/18/97 entitled, "Formula For Success" by
Lenore Skenazy in the "NOW Family" column:

I know that breastfeeding can be painful for some mothers but THIS IS NOT
NORMAL! Most mothers do not suffer dreadful pain while breastfeeding. Pain
is an indication that something is wrong and you should have made that clear
in your article. There is help out there so that breastfeeding can be the
enjoyable experience that it should be for both mother and baby. Mothers can
consult a local La Leche League Leader by calling 1-800-La-Leche or an
internationally board certified lactation consultant through the
International Lactation Consultant Assn (ILCA) headquartered in Chicago.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, the Academy of Breastfeedimg Medicine, the World Health
Organization, UNICEF, WIC, the US Department of Health and Human Services and
many other health organizations actively promote breastfeeding because it is
recognized as the optimum way to feed human infants.

I bet you would not publish such a one-sided account of a topic like, say,
dyspareunia (painful intercourse). And I bet you would discuss what
treatments were available and where the reader could go for help. Your scare
tactics in this article did a great disservice to your readers.

Sincerely,
