I have a mom who delivered 2 months early. Baby was born on Friday, and she
had high blood pressure, so hospital did not allow her to pump until Sunday
(yes, I live in a very unenlightened area). She has been pumping every 2-3
hours since Sunday, and also had a breast reduction several years ago. Now,
of course, this mother wants to breastfeed, and she is still only getting a
tsp. each time she pumps. Most of the breast reduction moms that I have
dealt with DO NOT develop a milk supply. I do not want to discourage this
mom, but if she is not going to develop a supply, I do not want to lead her
down the primrose path either. How long should I allow her to continue to
pump with very slim results before I suggest throwing in the towel (or should
I say breastshield)? -- Debbie

P.S. -- I have considered Fenugreek and medicinal options, but this baby
still has breathing issues.
