I was talking to one of my clients the other day. She is an "older"
mom--probably mid-30's, had first baby 6 months ago, has never had enough
breastmilk. She is a PhD, eats well and exercised before, during and
after her pregnancy. We were just chatting because she has always been
disappointed about the low supply issue. I think she took fenugreek and
blessed thistle, but domperidone was not something she was interested in.
She has used a BabyWeigh scale for months to gauge supplementation
amounts. But the interesting part..........................she is very
allergic herself, doesn't drink cows' milk, and was using rice milk for
herself. For some reason (I can't remember why) she switched to soy milk
and felt that her breastmilk "looked" richer--creamier color
particularly--& increased in amount. Have any of you had moms tell you
that?

The other thing was--finding in her reading that sage could affect
supply, she realized she had been using all kinds of sage body
products--shampoo, lotion, etc. So she stopped, even though she loves
the smell of sage and really misses it. Could sage use in that way,
externally, affect supply? She thinks the use of soy milk probably made
the most difference, but with the exclusion of the rice milk and the sage
products her supply increased about 1/3.

Any thoughts? It was certainly a link I would never have thought of.

Warmly,
