Several months ago my daughters friend had a baby. I had taught them lamaze
classes, and have known this young woman since she was 12 years old. When she
came home from the hospital she was having difficulty nursing, baby wouldn't
latch. I went over to her home & spent 3 hours with her. It made the
difference for her, some confidence building, and some twicking of techinque.
My daughter called while I was there, she told me not to overstay my visit!
Her friend wouldn't let me leave!!
It definately made the difference for her, having someone to guide her. The
baby is now 4 months old, exclusively breastfed.
I know in my heart that if she didn't have the extra support, she would have
given him bottles. She was having difficult getting him to latch, he was
crying, she and her husband were getting frustrated. I cup fed him to give
him some breastmilk, we just kept trying to get him to latch. It finally
worked.
I have done this before, when I was a visiting nurse. Moms need that support,
instruction and encouragement. It does make a difference.
