Diane... I really appreciated this post. I doubt I'll ever see them as
"reps" again. I will also make a concerted effort to be sure pens and the
like "disappear" off my unit. I never thought twice about picking up a pen
with a company name on it. I never even thought about the message it sends.

You (and others) have really got me thinking about all of this on a much
deeper level. You see, I work in a Level II nursery. In each of our pods,
we have a central area where we prepare feedings (whether it's simply
pouring breastmilk or fortifying feedings). On the top of this cart, we
keep ready-to-feed bottles of formula as well as powder for fortifying. We
also stock bottles of sterile water, which are provided by the formula
companies.

From now on, I will make it a point to keep these things INSIDE the drawer,
and not on top of the cart, so that the logos are not constantly staring at
parents' faces.

I wish I worked the dayshift so that I could actually SEE these salesmen and
tell them face-to-face why I won't accept their pens and other offerings.
But alas, I think I will be working nights forever...

Thanks for the wonderful discussion!
